Buying Guides: Buying Guides offer a comprehensive study on a category of products. Based on the latest research and manufacturer inquiries, our buying guides give you detailed information to help you make smart, safe choices. For example, the Cookware Buying Guide tells you about the materials used in each type of cookware with references to scientific studies and possible health effects. It identifies brands that fall in each category with links to purchase non-toxic options. Too busy to read it all? No problem. Each buying guide starts with a Report Card that shows you how each category or brand is rated. Use the dropdown menu at the top of the homepage to find the category that interests you.

Debra’s List: Debra’s List was started by non-toxic living pioneer, Debra Lynn Dadd, to help people find trustworthy, non-toxic brands. Search from hundreds of brands to find the products you want. We are regularly updating and adding new brands. Click on Debra’s List at the top of the homepage and select the category of interest.

Product Reviews: Don’t you hate it when you buy a non-toxic product only to find that it doesn’t work the way you hoped? We do reviews that tell you not only how safe a product is but also how well it works. You can find the product reviews by using the “Post” tab at the top of the homepage and selecting “Product Reviews” from the dropdown menu. (Coming Soon)

ADVOCATE for Safer Products for Everyone

NonToxU supports not-for-profit organizations working to improve chemical regulation, transparency for consumers, and environmental justice. We’ve created a page that features the work of some of these organizations. It identifies actions steps that you can take to support the cause, including petitions and fundraising campaigns. Select the “More” tab at the top of the homepage and scroll down to “Take Action”.

The vision for this website is that someday soon it will no longer be needed because safe, affordable products are available to everyone, everywhere. Education is an important step in the short term but if we want real change, governments and corporations need to work collectively to improve chemical management and transparency.

Today, we are far away from that vision.

• Over 40,000 registered chemicals are in use in the U.S. and only 1% have been rigorously tested for safety

• There is no process to test for interactions among multiple chemicals

• In the U.S., 11 chemicals have been restricted for use in Personal Care products vs. 1373 in the EU.

• Congress passed a law in 2016 to improve regulation

• As of 2020, the EPA is actually requiring less testing than under the old law
