Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner

I've got hardwood floors throughout my house and wanted to know if using Bona hardwood floor cleaner is safe in your opinion? I've had other hardwood floors in other houses where I used vinegar and water and it dries out the wood and causes it to split. Generally hardwood floor nanufacturers don't recommend using water on wood floors regardless, but I really like clean floors.

New Refrigerator

I may need to get a new refrigerator.  I called Needs in Syracuse and they said that the moso bags will not help with the outgassing/plastic smells in new refrigerator.  She had no suggestions except keeping the door open and putting an air cleaner in front of it.  Can you please post this question to see what mcs people have done to outgas the inside of a new refrigerator?

Proposition 65 Warning for Styrene and BPA in Toaster Oven

I recently purchased a Black and Decker Toaster oven, model TO3290XSD, online to replace our old one which is severely rusted and not functioning well. When the box was delivered I noticed a warning that read as follows: WARNING: This product can expose you to chemicals including Styrene, which known to the State of California to cause cancer, and Bisphenol-A, which is known to the State of California to casue birth defects or other reproductive harm. For more information go to www.P65Warnings.ca.gov. I went to the website and there is a list of chemical and their potential adverse effects but no explanation of how exactly the particular product in question would expose a person so such chemicals or how such chemicals are incorporated into the product.

Blenders and Juicers

I have decided to start eating healthier by going plant-based. This will require a blender. Are there any companies on this website that sell toxic free blenders and juicers? I look forward to hearing from you.

A New Refrigerator that Doesn’t Outgas

Hi there! I’m shopping for a new fridge, and I’m looking at the descriptions, ALL of them so far have prop 65 warning, which I’m not happy with, plus some of them smell terrible, like a toxic factory inside when I checked some out at stores. Are there any refrigerators that are made with non toxic materials at all? Without the prop 65? Please share anything you know about this. Thank you.

Bitumen in Dishwasher

Have there been any safer dishwashers on the market? We've gone w/out one for over 2 years now, but really miss it.  Also, if the choice comes down to PVC (Part of interior not the whole thing) or the newer bitumen ones which is safer?

New Refrigerator Off-Gassing

I have been in my current home for 12 years with the same refrigerator that was here when we moved in… I'm considering a new refrigerator, yet am stalling, due to the off gassing of new units. (I've been "considering" a purchase for 6 years!). I have searched the web and found very little discourse and no refrigerators that are manufactured with materials that do not off gas.

Sweet Smell in the Drum of Speed Queen Washer

I had my new Speed Queen top loader washer delivered today and the smell from the drum is making me very ill. Do you have any ideas as to how I clean the drum to get rid of the smell? It was suppose to go away as soon as I cleaned the drum and removed the finishing wax. Not so. It just seems to keep right on smelling.

Washing Machine Offgassing

Three months ago we bought a new washing machine. I noticed an awful "plasticky" smell inside the machine, and figured it needed to outgas. I've tried leaving the door of the washing machine open as much as possible when not in use to air out the machine.

Do Plastics Off-Gas?

I've been wondering if "everyday" household items made from plastic are off-gassing petrochemicals. Some examples would be plastic food storage containers, plastic flowerpots, plastic broomhandles and dustpans, etc. Thanks for any info on this.

Fiberglass Insulation in a New Oven

We just bought a new electric range/oven and were surprised to see that the fiberglass insulation in the back of the unit is not covered where the lightbulb enters the inside of the oven. Is this a hazard? I actually started to pull on the fiberglass, as it looked like packing material to keep the bulb from breaking in transit. Wasn't pleased when I realized what I was handling, and worried that our new stove might put the fiberglass in our cooking.

Getting the Smell Out of a New Refrigerator

How can you get the smell out of a new refrigerator? I have never had a new fridge before so was not aware it would smell so bad!  I washed it out with soapy water and then have put a bowl of baking soda on each shelf...4 days later, it still smells. It smells like it is more of the vinyl around the edge of the fridge keeping it airtight versus actually inside the fridge but then again I can't get in there and close the door to see if it smells.

Nontoxic Outdoor Grill

The burning of all fuels produce combustion by-products and smoke, which make food taste delicious, but are harmful to breathe. So regardless of which type of barbecue you choose, try not to breathe a lot of smoke. There are basically two types of grills: gas and charcoal.
