Least Toxic Recliner and Loveseat
I don't know what stores in the Pittsburgh area carry non or low toxic reclining furniture and I need to buy some for the new home we plan to be in fairly soon.
Non-Toxic Furniture Store for Sofa
I am trying to find information on stores that carry California compliant Sofas. Such as, Crate and Barrel. I do not want a custom sofa. I saw on your site a list of stores that were compliant and for some reason I cannot find that page again no matter how many times I try.
Non-Toxic Sofa
I am trying to find safe/safer, affordable furniture. I see one popular store (Crate and Barrel) makes a sofa that has "soy-based polyfoam" cushions, "wrapped in fiber-down blend and recycled fiber, encased in downproof ticking." There are also springs in the sofa. What do you think about this sofa?
Is There Such a Thing as a Nontoxic Bean Bag Chair?
I made my own by purchasing organic cotton covers and filling them with organic kapok. They were quite big, so I put old cotton t-shirts in the bottom and then topped them off with the kapok. If you google organic cotton bean bag covers you will come up with several options.
Shopping for Toxic-Free Products at IKEA
Does anyone know about Ikea stuff? They claim some of their things are non voc etc. Does anyone have any actual experience though with buying anything new from them?
Lovesac Furniture
I recently saw a Lovesac piece of soft furniture, and wanted to know about the materials it is made from. They are textiles, REPREVE, repurposed from plastic bottles, and Durafoam, a premium blend of shredded recycled foam. They make a “Sac” and a sectional couch.
Furniture Finish for Bed Frame
I am having a king bed-frame custom-made for me by a couple that does local workworks in Alaska but they haven't worked much with people with chemical sensitivities such as myself. I was wondering what readily available finish would be best for someone like me with chemical sensitivities; is it better to use Klean Strip Boiled Linseed Oil, or Old Masters 100% tung oil, or something else?
GreenGuard Certified Ottoman
I am failing to find a greenguard certified ottoman coffee table, or at least a "nontoxic" one. The only one I have found was through pottery barn. Any other suggestions? Also, is there a difference between nontoxic and greenguard certified?
Affordable Sofas
My first nontoxic sofa was a sectional sofa where the pieces were made with cotton canvas over metal frames, with toxic pillows on top. I just replaced the toxic pillows with 100% cotton pillows stuffed with some of the first organic cotton batting that was available. It was a great sofa and I wish someone would make this type of frame now.
Cold Foam in IKEA Furniture
I am looking at an office chair at IKEA, the GREGOR swivel chair. The product description says the seat cushion is made of "high Resilient polyurethane foam ( Cold foam)". Do you know what that is and is it safe?
Eco-Friendly Furniture from Pottery Barn
Thanks for all your research and helpful information, which I use all the time. I'm wondering if you know anything about Pottery Barn's new furniture line, "PB Comfort Eco."
IKEA and Flame Retardants
I contacted IKEA about an article I read but I don't fully know what to make of the response. I read an article about IKEA intending to phase out flame retardants by 2010. Did this happen? What were they replaced with? Do you have any furniture without polyurethane foam, if so what do they contain?
Why is Polyester Batting Toxic?
Can you please explain to me why polyester batting is toxic? I can't seem to find any specifics on it. All I find is that it's a stable material and, if it remains inside whatever it is (cushion, toy etc.), it's not a danger.
Worried about Toxic Chemicals in Furniture
We recently ordered a lot of new furniture from Ashley Furniture store (bought in CA, made in China) and I am nervous about all the chemicals that may be in my air. We got a dining room table and hutch, and kitchen table that have a chemical smell. I did order a test kit from ACS and I am going Safe seal the wood furniture. However, what can I do to protect myself from the chemical exposure from the sofa’s and loveseats? My husband and I have a 4 year old and we’re currently “trying” to have a baby. Any advice would be appreciated.
Odor from Pine Furniture
I have a pine armoire I have had for 13 years. When I lived in Ca I never noticed the smell but I was forced to close up the room it is in here in MI for a week. When I went into the room the pine smell was very potent. I know it is damper here than in Ca. Could that be bringing out the smell. Is there any thing I can treat this piece with to make the smell go away?
Unfinished Pine Wood Platform Bedframe Offgassing
We bought unfinished pine wood platform bedframe from online, and find it smells strong (wood smell). What kind of option do I have now?
Unsafe Solid Wood Furniture
I have MCS and know that when I purchase furniture it cannot contain MDF wood or plywoods because of the off-gassing of the glues. What I didn't know was that when I ordered a custom-made solid wood bedframe and work desk that they would be sitting in my garage because they burned my throat turning it bright red and sore, made my eyes burn, plugged-up my nose and made me cough when I got near them.
Leather Couch Offgassing
My partner and I bought a new leather lounge suite recently. It was made in China and when it arrived it smelled very strongly of chemicals. I've been away since the day after the couch arrived, and now it's time to return to our unit but I'm very concerned about the chemical smell.
Sealing Toxic Particleboard Furniture
I have a crazy situation. I put a $500.00 deposit down on some furniture I love, but found out it's wood veneer over fiber-board. I've been agonizing for a week whether to have it delivered or if I should lose my deposit, or at least some of it. My chiropractor muscle-tested me weak on formaldahyde, so it wouldn't be a great thing, but it was on sale for a really good price, it looks great, it's what I need, but I don't want to get sick and I don't want to feel hypocritical.
